Lee Breuer

Lee Breuer

Lee Breuer (born 6 February 1937) is an American theater director and playwright. He and his partner, Ruth Maleczech, were founding members of the avant-garde theatre company Mabou Mines, based in New York City. He is also anartistic director. He has directed over thirty plays including "The Gospel at Colonus", "Mabou Mines Dollhouse" (which won an Obie Award for Best Director), "Peter and Wendy", and "Mabou Mines Red Beads".

Through the deconstruction of classic texts, he joined the ranks of New York experimental theatre directors of the 1970s, helping to create a postmodern theatrical style., along with Maleczech, Richard Foreman, JoAnne Akalaitis and Elizabeth LeCompte.Fact|date=February 2008
