Couliou spent his youth in the neighbourhood of
Pont-Aven , the village of his parents. He studied at theÉcole des Beaux-Arts ofRennes , Académies et Écoles Nationales Supérieures des Arts Décoratifs, des Arts Appliqués and the Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was encouraged by the painters Brianchon, Dupas, Legueult, Roland Oudot, andRoger Bissière .tyle
Beginning in
Naïve art , he later developed to a style ofpoetic realism , with periods ofexpressionism , Abstract art and lyrical and geometrical abstracticism.Awards
