Bezmiâlem

Bezmiâlem (1807—1852) (Bezm-i Alem, Bazim-i Alam, meaning "Feast of the World") was the second wife of Sultan Mahmud II of the Ottoman Empire. She was of Jewish origin from Russia originally called Suzi (hence referred to as Rus Yahudisi Suzi) Also, the name of her father, Leon, is mentioned.

She was Valide Sultan (1839-1852), being the mother of Sultan Abd-ul-Mejid I.

As with other influential Ottoman women, she was patron of arts and architecture. Of notable historical architecture commissioned by her are Kasr-I Dilkusa (Dilkusa Summer Palace) of Yıldız Palace complex, Bezmiâlem Valide Sultan Fountain and Dolmabahçe Mosque in Istanbul.
