National Park in the northen part ofCosta Rica , which forms part of theArenal Tilaran Conservation Area . The jewel of the National Park is the volcano, from which it receives it's name. The Tenorio Volcano was made part of the National Park in 1995 and is located about 26 miles northeast from the town of in theGuanacaste Province .Tenorio Volcano consists of four volcanic peaks and two craters. One of the craters is sometimes referred to as the Montezuma Volcano. Tenorio attains a maximum height of 6,287 feet (1,913 m). The awe inspiring
Rio Celeste (Light Blue River) is turned literally blue due to the emanation ofsulfur from the volcano and precipitation ofcalcium carbonate . Thermal springs and small geysers dot the area as do rivers, waterfalls, lagoons and panoramic views. The upper area of the park is dominated by primarycloud forest , while the lower regions are carpeted withrain forest .
