Carl attended
William Allitt school in Swadlincote, Derbyshire between 1998 and 2003. During his time there, he was a keen and vital member of the football team.Ideally, he plays on the left of midfield or in defence, and is a very tall and physical player, who has consistently performed well during his time in the Stoke City academy and reserve teams.
Dickinson made his full first-team start against Sheffield United on
April 1 ,2004 , atBritannia Stadium . His performance earned him a Man of the Match nomination.Two days later, on
April 3 , he signed a professional contract with the club.Dickinson was on loan at
Iceland ic club Víkingur until pre-season 2006/7, along with teammate Keith Thomas.On
October 20 2006 Dickinson joined Blackpool on a month's loan. OnNovember 9 , it was announced that he would be staying with Blackpool for another month. This was extended to a third month onNovember 23 .
