Llanishen High School is an English-medium secondary school based in Llanishen, Cardiff, Wales and has approximately 1700 students, making it the largest single-site secondary school in Cardiff.

chool Buildings

Much of the school was built during the 1950s, but some buildings (the new Science block for example) were built in later decades. The School has a hockey pitch, indoor tennis courts, fields for athletics/cricket/football and rugby and enters teams in a variety of competitions - usually competing against local schools.

Council

The School has a student council formed in mid 2006. This council consists of four students from each year from 7-11 voted in by the whole year.

The council has been proved a success in having key input in developing several area's of the school. Examples of this include; new bike racks, re-development of the West-Wing corridoor area, improving canteen food through the newly-found SNACK comittee. Current projects include a revamp of the school website, re-development of the East-Wing corridoor area and improving the schools Quad area.

Trivia

LHTV is a small TV Station based at the school. It has produced films on Bullying, Uniform and one about "Transition" from Year 6 to Year 7, i.e. the move from primary school to high school. The station was involved in an award won at the European Languages Awards 2007 when the Modern Foreign Languages Department won the award for the best "Foreign Language Film".

The station also films the annual European Day of Languages held in Cardiff every year which incidentley the school itself runs.

The school is on Heol Hir and the Head Teacher is Mr. R. Smyth BA MA NPQH. Deputy head teachers are Mr A. Holland and Mr H. Rodgers.

Assistant head teachers include; Mrs L. Stringer Mrs J. Brooke, Mr R. Wilson and Mrs S. Parry.

There are three teachers out of the 100 at Llanishen with PhDs, Dr A. Littler (History), Dr Lloyd (Mathematics) and Dr Gropes (Mathematics).

The School featured on the finale of the E4 series "High School Dance", a television series that documented 5 committee member disorganize a party for their school with a £5,000 budget.
