Its administrative seat is the city ofGorzów Wielkopolski , although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The only towns in Gorzów County areKostrzyn nad Odrą , which lies convert|43|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of Gorzów Wielkopolski, andWitnica , convert|25|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of Gorzów Wielkopolski.The county covers an area of convert|1213.32|km2|sqmi|1. As of 2006 its total population is 65,546, out of which the population of Kostrzyn nad Odrą is 17,725, that of Witnica is 6,849, and the rural population is 40,972.
