Theprison is located in thetown ofUsk inMonmouthshire ,Wales .It is of
Victorian architecture design consisting of three main wings. Usk prison can hold 250 male inmates. Usk Prison's victorian design of three wings radiating off a central rotunda allows prison staff supervising prisoners to maintain clear lines of sight to all cell entrances along its 2-storey design. Usk prison is unusual in that the establishment only holds vulnerable prisoners andsex offender s.There is also a
charity workshop providing money for local charitable causes. Much of the work of the prison is centred around the prisoners addressing their offending behaviour, through specialised sex offender treatment programmes. Its sister prison is called Prescoed and this is anopen prison approximately three miles from Usk (towardsPontypool ) with capacity for 170 prisoners. This facility's main purpose is to re-introduce prisoners back into society through a dedicated resettlement team and the provision of work in the community. The prison has a small museum within its main administration building.
