Scott Thompson (born 14 March 1983) is an Australian rules footballer in the Australian Football League. He was taken at Pick 16 in the 2000 AFL Draft.

Melbourne career

Debuting with the Melbourne in 2001 as a 19-year-old, he struggled to break through into the side. He only played when another player was injured until 2004. He played 12 of the first 13 games, before getting himself injured.

Adelaide career

It looked like Melbourne were going to keep him for the 2005 season but Adelaide was to snatch the youngster off them - one of the reasons cited by Thompson was a willingness to return to his home state.

Then a 22-year-old, he missed the first game of the 2005 season but played every game from then on in, kicking 28 goals in the process. His pace and skills were his major assets but on occasion he lost focus and discipline under pressure, which was brought down to a lack of maturity. An example of this was the second home-and-away clash against Port Adelaide, where he gave away several undisciplined free kicks.

In 2006, he is considered to be a vital part of the Adelaide Football Club's midfield and is continually an improving player.

2007

Scott Thompson has become one of the elite players in the AFL throughout the first part of season 2007. Averaging almost 25 disposals per game this year as well as 6 marks, Scott has been one of the most improved players this season and polled 18 votes in the 2007 Brownlow Medal.

2008Scott Thompson has played every game this season and really stepped up to becoming an elite midfielder. Taking on a very important role in the team, Scott heads a very young midfield and often attracts the oppositions main tagger.

Personal life

He and partner Ashe Holbing welcomed daughter Ava Lily on March 9th 2007.
