Ryan Anthony is a
trumpet player, most notable for his performances as a member ofCanadian Brass , has had his performances used in many broadcasts of major U.S. television networks.History
He was born in 1970 in
San Diego ,California . He studiedviolin as a child until he finally began trumpet at age seven. His first instrument was his grandfather's oldcornet and he performed "Amazing Grace " that Sunday at church.Over the next ten years, Ryan would grow in his ability to a prodigious level. He won the
General Motors /Seventeen magazineconcerto competition at the age of 16. At age seventeen, he caught the attention ofCanadian Brass players in a local workshop. He played right alongside Fred Mills on "Handful of Keys" byFats Waller . NBC 's "Must See TV " in 1998.After his education at the
Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), he was awarded the trumpet professorship atOberlin Conservatory , where he stayed until 2000.More recent activities
In 2000, Ryan was offered an opportunity to play in the Canadian Brass. He set off on tour with them later that year. He played in the Brass for three years. During this time, he was awarded the alumni achievement award from the CIM. He then left the group to pursue a solo career and to spend more time with his family. He still performs with them occasionally, however, along with performances in other venues across the country. In 2005, he released his first official solo CD. Ryan presently serves as Acting Principal Trumpet for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
