KUCD signed on the air in 1991 as a
smooth jazz outlet as "CD 101.9" but by1997 they would switch directions tomodern AC as "Star 101.9," which they would carry into its evolution to modern rock in2001 .Star 101.9 morning drive DJs are Hudson Hott and Scotty B. The afternoon drive DJ is Maleko. Adam Carr is the Program Director. Morty Chris is the Music Director.

In 2006, KUCD's HD2 subcarrier debuted with a Heavy Metal fomat. But on May 24, 2008 it will be replaced by "HD Radio Free Hawaii." The aforementioned format is a updated version of the original "Radio Free Hawaii" format, which started at KDEO-FM, where it lasted from 1990 to 1994 and again from 1995 to 1997.
