Autoignition=MOPS is the common name for the compound 3-(N-morpholino)propanesulfonic acid a
buffer introduced by Good et al. in the 1960's. It is a structural analog toMES . [Good, N.E. et al., Biochemistry, 5, 467-477 (1966).] Its chemical structure contains amorpholine ring.HEPES is a similarpH buffering compound which contains apiperazine ring. With a pKa of 7.20, MOPS is an excellent buffer for many biological systems at near-neutral pH.Applications
MOPS is frequently used as a
buffering agent inbiology andbiochemistry . It is has been tested and recommended forpolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis . [Thomas, J.M. and Hodes, M.E., Analytical Biochemistry, 118, 194-196 (1981).] Usage above 20mM in mammaliancell culture work is not recommended. [Eagle, H., Science, 174, 500-503 (1971).]References
