- UAV Corp.
UAV Corporation or commonly known as UAV Entertainment was an entertainment company founded in
1984as a small local company. As of 2002the company was purchased by Morgenthaler Partnersdue to increasing demands. Its headquarters was located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
June 14, 2006, UAV Corp. filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy, laying off 172 employees, claiming payroll funding had been cut. A week later, the total number of layoffs had increased to 293 employees.
A class action lawsuit was filed by former employees against UAV Corp. & Morgenthaler Partners, seeking 60 days pay and unpaid benefits. The lawsuit claimed UAV did not give advance warning of the layoffs, as is required by the
Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, also called the WARN Act. UAV claimed that it was not required to give a 60 day notification in advance of the layoff because the WARN Act excuses layoffs due to unforeseen business circumstances.
Most of the products produced by UAV Entertainment are VHS and DVD videos of movies, cartoons and TV shows that are in the public domain, as well as some music entertainment.
