Paul Raymond Bérenger (born
March 26 ,1945 ) is a Mauritian politician and former Prime Minister ofMauritius from 2003 to 2005. Bérenger is of French descent. Bérenger, the only non-Hindu to becomePrime minister of Mauritius thus far, founded theMauritian Militant Movement . He was successful to succeed toAnerood Jugnauth . Jugnauth was prime minister for the first 3 years and Berenger took over for the remaining two years of their term. Berenger subsequently tried to run on his own in the following elections but lost.Following the election that took place in July 2005, Mr. Paul Bérenger lost toNavinchandra Ramgoolam .Bérenger is an alumnus of the University College of North Wales in Bangor, now
