Paul Bérenger

Paul Raymond Bérenger (born March 26, 1945) is a Mauritian politician and former Prime Minister of Mauritius from 2003 to 2005. Bérenger is of French descent. Bérenger, the only non-Hindu to become Prime minister of Mauritius thus far, founded the Mauritian Militant Movement. He was successful to succeed to Anerood Jugnauth. Jugnauth was prime minister for the first 3 years and Berenger took over for the remaining two years of their term. Berenger subsequently tried to run on his own in the following elections but lost.Following the election that took place in July 2005, Mr. Paul Bérenger lost to Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
