Ebbisham Sports Club is a
racquets club situated inEpsom inSurrey . Formed in 1937 on its present site, the club has since grown to a thriving sports club with a friendly bar, three tennis courts, three squash courts and three badminton courts.It is a members' club and is split into three sections:
badminton , squash andtennis . Each section can be joined separately or you can become a full member. The currentchairman and Treasurer of the club is Trevor Staplehurst, the vice-chairman is Trevor Foale assisted by Dave Robinson, Terry Coles and Viv nash.The club's manager is Maureen Vandrau, assisted by Lesley Coles and Teresa Jolliffe. Trevor Flood is the bar manager.
Badminton
The
Badminton section at the club is headed by Richard Pennington. The dedicated badminton hall has 3 courts, with sprung timber flooring, dark walls and side lighting. Members of a similar standard play on a regular night each week throughout the year in graded sessions. A - Wednesdays (top grade), B - Thursdays, C - Tuesdays and D - Mondays. A tab/peg system enables you to play with different members during the evening. To play in one of the graded sessions, you need to pay the badminton session supplement in addition to the club membership subscription. The supplement covers the cost of court time and shuttles for one adult badminton session per week. New members play-in to determine their standard and existing members may play-up at any time during the year. Club nights start at 7.00pm and end at 10.45pm.The four Junior sections enjoy coaching on Fridays and Sundays during the winter season. They are of a high standard and competition for entry is usually fierce. Many inter-county matches are also played at Ebbisham. The junior badminton standard ranges from beginners to first team county players.
Squash
The standard of squash at Ebbisham is strong. A league system operates every five weeks where members are invited to play other members of a similar standard. If they win, they are promoted, lose and they are relegated. There are also competitions every year. The men's and women's open, handicap and plate tournaments, as well as doubles, veterans and vintage tournaments, are always well attended. The current men's open champion is Greg Lamond, and women's open Sarah Hudspeth.
The Junior Standard is strong, and Jo Robinson has created a strong crop of junior players with six teams operating in seven divisions. They have won the top division three times in a row and are widely regarded as the best junior club in
Surrey .There are also three men's teams, two women's and a veterans'
team .Tennis
There are three
tennis courts, which are available free of charge to the members. These are open all year and in all weather.External links
