Planning Acts

= England & Wales =

Four inter-related Acts of Parliament in the United Kingdom passed in 1990 to reform the planning system in England and Wales.

They were:-
*Town and Country Planning Act 1990 - The Principal Act
*Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990
*Planning (Hazardous Substances) Act 1990
*Planning (Consequential Provisions) Act 1990.

The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 remains in force as the principal planning act in the England and Wales but has received a number of revisions and alterations in the form of:-
*Planning and Compensation Act 1991
*Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995
*Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 - sections of which also apply to Scotland.The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007

Scotland

The Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 is the principal Act which governs planning in Scotland. It is supported by various other pieces of primary and secondary legislation, including: Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997 and the Planning (Hazardous Substances) (Scotland) Act 1997.

More recently, the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 was passed by the Scottish Parliament. This Act paves the way for significant planning reform in Scotland. The 2006 Act] does not replace the 1997 Act; however does modify and amend many of its provisions.

Northern Ireland

Separate legislation governs planning in Northern Ireland.
