Evangelical Philosophical Society

Evangelical Philosophical Society

Evangelical Philosophical Society (EPS) is an organization devoted to the study of philosophy and philosophical issues in the fields of ethics, theology, and religion from an evangelical philosophical perspective. The organization is open to professional scholars with associate membership available to laypersons and students.

"Philosophia Christi" is the journal associated with the organization. The journal contains discussions about a variety of topics related to the philosophy of evangelical religion and theology. Recent issues discuss postmodernism, the metaphysics of good and evil, and the nature of selfhood and consciousness from an evangelical philosophical point of view. Other recent contributions discuss the theory of intelligent design. A special intelligent design issue, "Philosophical Issues in Intelligent Design," contains original contributions by William Dembski, Jay Richards, Timothy and Lydia McGrew, Robin Collins, Charles Taliaferro, Alexander Pruss. Craig Hazen is the editor of the journal. [http://www.biola.edu/id/speakers.cfm]

Most issues of "Philosophia Christi" contain book reviews of interest to evangelical Christians, theologians, and philosophers. For example, "", by Barbara Forrest and Paul R. Gross, was reviewed by Jonathan Witt from the Center for Science and Culture at the Discovery Institute. [http://www.epsociety.org/p%20517-519.pdf] Witt's review of "Creationism’s Trojan Horse: The Wedge of Intelligent Design" states:

On every page of the book, there is a tone of paranoia. One need not be an especially perceptive reader to sense that the threat Forrest and Gross fear is not to science but to materialism. Why do Gross and Forrest cling to their ideology even to the point of sacrificing the most basic principles of reasoned argumentation? There are resources for answering that question, but they lie outside the theory of ID.
