Allen Martin (Motivational Speaker)

Allen P. L. Martin is the president and founder of Al Martin Training Services, Inc., a consultant service and training organization established in 1995. He is also a federally certified mediator and negotiator and a radio talk show host.

Martin honed his negotiation, mediation, management and communications skills in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He was a founder of Take Back Our City (TBOC), a Detroit-based initiative which became nationally recognized for reducing gang violence and homicides as cited in a University of Michigan study. He has been personally credited for direct intervention in preventing 62 gang-related homicides.

He was also the Substance Prevention Coordinator for the Detroit Health Department. Additionally, he facilitated support groups associated with Save our Sons and Daughters (SOSAD) -- an organization for mothers of murdered children -- and an award-winning effort that recognized the Survival Institute he created at SOSAD.

As Violence Prevention Coordinator for the City of Detroit’s Department of Health, Martin was a trainer in prevention, staff development, stress reduction, and violence in the workplace. Earlier, as president of BDC Management in Houston, he created the Direct Admissions Program, an effort that introduced hotel and concierge services in several hospitals in the Houston Medical Center complex. His successes in the health care industry likewise include training and managing a volunteer staff for the Hospice of Southeastern Michigan where he increased hospice volunteers by 300 percent within one year.

Martin has a strong track record as a community activist. He has been a candidate for the Detroit City Council and counts as his greatest achievement the mentoring of 13 Detroit area youth, five of whom are college graduates. In addition, he has coordinated and successfully passed smoke-free environmental legislation in Detroit and Wayne County. Martin authored "The Martin Rule", the State of Michigan’s model for its comprehensive seatbelt law, "Click-it or Ticket".

Martin’s professional and community affiliations include Dunamis Outreach Ministries Worldwide International, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Eastern Michigan Black Alumni Association, Detroit Public Schools Drug Free and Community Advisory Committee and the Michigan Association of Youth Serving Agencies.

He is the recipient of several awards and honors. They include Community Man of the Year, a U.S. Congressional Testimonial, and the Spirit of Detroit Award. He was also a nominee for the President’s Point of Light Award and the Michigan Community Activist of the Year. Martin has appeared as a guest on several local and national radio and television broadcasts including Dateline, 20/20, America’s Black Journal and the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Martin holds Bachelors Degree in Criminology, Sociology and Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Criminology. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Detroit.
