Nicholas Cunliffe-Lister, 3rd Earl of Swinton

Nicholas John Cunliffe-Lister, 3rd Earl of Swinton (born 4 September 1939), styled Hon. Nicholas Cunliffe-Lister from 1974 to 2006, is a British peer.

He inherited the title Earl of Swinton on the death of his older brother, the 2nd Earl, on 26 March 2006.

Family

Lord Swinton's first wife was the Hon. Elizabeth Susan Whitelaw[1] who was appointed Lord Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire in July 2005.,[2] the eldest daughter of the 1st Viscount Whitelaw, whom he married in 1966. The couple were divorced and Lord Swinton remarried in 1996 to Pamela June Wood. He has two sons and one daughter by his first wife:

  1. Lady Susan Cunliffe-Lister.
  1. Mark William Philip Cunliffe-Lister, styled Lord Masham (born 15 September 1970), who is married since 17 June 2000 to Felicity C. Shadbolt.[3] The couple have bought back and restored Swinton Park.[4]
  1. Hon. Simon Charles Cunliffe-Lister (born 1977),[5] now of Burton Agnes Hall, inherited in 1989 from his kinsman, Sir Marcus Wickham-Boynton.[6] In 2005, he married Olivia Bolton.[7]

The heir apparent to the earldom is the elder son the Honourable Mark William Philip Cunliffe-Lister, styled Lord Masham (born 1970).
