CNN 'sMiddle East correspondent based inCairo . A former Baghdadcorrespondent , he was brought back to cover theSaddam Hussein execution onDecember 30 ,2006 . He was the first Western journalist to announce the execution itself, quoting Arab television.Before that, he was based in
Baghdad . Prior to Baghdad posting, he was based inBangkok, Thailand . During that time he was one of the first reporters to go live fromPhuket, Thailand after the2004 Indian Ocean earthquake . In addition to Iraq and Thailand, Raman has traveled toIran ,Syria ,England ,Japan ,Nicaragua ,Cambodia ,Singapore ,Philippines andIndonesia .He has also done a number of political stories for a show that used to be on CNN, "Inside Politics" profiling the young generation and their involvement in the American 2004 presidential election. Raman was awarded a local
Emmy Award in 1997.Raman was a Fulbright Scholar after graduating from
