Heck graduated with a BA in Art History and Economics in 1989 from
Brown University , where he was awarded theJohn Hope Award for Public Service in 2005. To increase awareness and raise funds to combat theepidemic ofAIDS around the world, Heck partnered with fellow Brown alumniChris Mundy "(Rolling Stone Senior Writer)" andJessica Kowal "(freelance writer forNewsday )" to produce the album "No Alternative" for the Red Hot Organization, released to great commercial and critical success in 1993 by Arista Records. Under the aegis of Red Hot, Paul has produced several other critically acclaimed benefit albums, including RH + RIO, RH+ RIOT, RH+INDIGO, RH+ Rhapsody, OffBeat, RH+ BOTHERED.Heck has also produced these successful compilations:
