Richard Dowis

Richard Dowis (born 1930) is a writer and president of the Society for the Preservation of English Language and Literature (SPELL). This Waleska, Georgia resident authored "The Lost Art of the Great Speech" (1999, ISBN 0-8144-7054-8), a treatise for speechwriters. Dowis, along with Richard Lederer, authored "Sleeping Dogs Don't Lay (and that's no lie)" (1999, ISBN 0-312-26394-5), as well as "" (1995, ISBN 0-671-52670-7) — which outlines the proper use of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style in the English language.
