Eurotel is former name for Slovak (now T-Mobile) and Czech (now O2) mobile network.
Eurotel was founded in
1990 as a joint venture betweenSPT Telecom (51%) and the American joint venture Atlantic West (betweenUS WEST International, Inc. andBell Atlantic International Inc.). On launch it received an exclusive five-year licence to operate a public data network, and a 20-year licence for the 450 MHz band to operate an analogueNMT mobile phone network, and automatically also a right to buy a licence to the futureGSM network.Name Eurotel was use for Czechoslovak network, after dissolution of the country, the company was also dissoluted for Slovak Eurotel
Bratislava and Czech EurotelPraha . The Slovak part was rebranded in2005 toT-Mobile , the Czech part in2006 to O2.Note that O2 also operates in Slovakia and T-Mobile in the Czech republic but they are unrelated to either Eurotel Bratislava or Eurotel Praha, respectively.
Telefónica O2 Slovakia is a brand new network andT-Mobile Czech Republic evolved from Paegas network.
