James Morris (bass-baritone)

James Morris (bass-baritone)

James Morris is an American opera singer, boasting a stentorian bass voice, best known for his role as Wotan in performances of Richard Wagner's opera cycle, "Der Ring des Nibelungen". Although he has sung many roles in both the German and Italian repetoire, Wotan remains his signature role. He is considered one of the top two or three Wotans in the world and, while celebrating his 61st birthday in January 2008, he he received enthusiastic shouts of "bravo," in his reprise of that role in "Die Walkure" at New York's Metropolitan Opera. In addition to his imposing voice, Morris, solidly built at 6 feet, five inches, has the physical stature to play this demanding role convincingly.
