October 28 ,1976 inSt Helens, Merseyside ) is a Welsh professionalrugby league footballer who plays for St Helens club as hooker.The youngest of ten siblings, Keiron Cunningham was born five months after his brother, Eddie Cunningham, had won a Challenge Cup winner's medal for St Helens against Widnes.
Cunningham comes from the
Thatto Heath district of St Helens, he signed for his home town club from amateur club Wigan St Jude’s in 1993 and made his first-team debut the following year.Cunningham soon established himself as a world class hooker, renowned for his dynamic running from dummy-half and ability to poach tries from short distances. He has represented both Great Britain and Wales in internationals. Cunningham qualifies for Wales because of a Welsh grandfather.
In 2006 Cunningham made his 350th appearance for St Helens. He has over the course of his career, rejected offers from the
Welsh Rugby Union , England Rugby Union and from variousAustralia n rugby league clubs.In July 2007,
Rugby League World magazine ranked him as the greatest player of the Super League era.Cunningham recently made his 400th appearance for saints. He has won 5 Super League Championships, 6 Challenge Cup Winners Medals and 2 World Club Challenge Winners Medals in his St Helens career.
Cunningham recently won a public supporters vote, beating the likes of Tom Van Vollenhoven and Alex Murphy to be cast as a statue outside the new St Helens stadium when it is built.
He has been named in the
