Justice C K Thakkar (also Thakker) (born

After taking primary education at Mander and
Madhavpur , Thakker graduated from a college inJunagadh and obtainedLLB (law) degree from a law college inJamnagar . He also obtainedLLM degree fromGujarat University and started practice from 1968 in theHigh Court of Gujarat . He was appointed as a part-time lecturer in law in a law college inAhmedabad in 1970 and continued until he was elevated as a judge of the High Court of Gujarat onJune 21 ,1990 . OnMay 5 ,2000 , he was elevated as theChief Justice of theHigh Court of Himachal Pradesh . On31 December ,2001 , he was transferred as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. He also served as actingGovernor of Maharashtra from July to October 2002. In June, 2004, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. His book on theCivil Procedure Code , 1908 has remained a standard textbook for law students in India for the past 25 years.References
