Justice C K Thakkar

Justice C K Thakkar (also Thakker) (born November 10, 1943, Mander near Porbandar, Gujarat, India) is a judge serving the Supreme Court of India since June 2004.

Education and Career

After taking primary education at Mander and Madhavpur, Thakker graduated from a college in Junagadh and obtained LLB (law) degree from a law college in Jamnagar. He also obtained LLM degree from Gujarat University and started practice from 1968 in the High Court of Gujarat. He was appointed as a part-time lecturer in law in a law college in Ahmedabad in 1970 and continued until he was elevated as a judge of the High Court of Gujarat on June 21, 1990. On May 5, 2000, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh. On 31 December, 2001, he was transferred as the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court. He also served as acting Governor of Maharashtra from July to October 2002. In June, 2004, he was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. His book on the Civil Procedure Code, 1908 has remained a standard textbook for law students in India for the past 25 years.
