comic relief formersupervillain foe of and then support crewmember of the Avengers. He first appeared "Avengers" #217 (March 1982).A
lottery winner, Stankowicz used his winnings to gain notoriety as a supervillain by using hisengineering talent to inventpowered armor suits to attack the Avengers as The Mechano-Marauder.Unfortunately for him, The Avengers recognized from the start that he was not a major threat, but rather an annoyance instead. For instance, during his first assault on the Avengers, Stankowicz was challenged by
Iron Man who considered this dilettante so minor a problem that when several fellow Avengers passed by at various times and inquired if their ally needed assistance, Iron Man casually declined and they departed from the scene without comment. After that defeat, Stankowicz attempted to attack the team multiple times such as when he crashed an Avengers female recruitment
tea party where he was easily defeated by Janet Van Dyne. He attacked a group of Avengers when they appeared on "Late Night with David Letterman ". The superheros were at a stalemate whenDavid Letterman himself subdued Fabian with a giant prop doorknob, knocking him out.Eventually after an unpleasant stay in
prison ,Captain America spoke in Stankowicz's support at his parole hearing. Captain America felt Stankowicz was more misguided than evil and hired him on as part of the Avengers' support crew to give him something better to do with his time.External links
