April 6

* "Gunvor" UK wrecked on Pedn-Mean-an-Mor rocks, crew scrambled to safety.Citation| last = Leonard| first = Alan| title = Profiting from Shipwrecks| journal = Picture Postcard Annual| pages = pp14-16| year = 2008]

* Barquentine "Mildred" UK struck rocks at Gurnard's Head in dense fog and sank with her sails set. No lives lost.

15 April

* RMS "Titanic" (UK): Largest ocean liner launched to date, sank during her maiden voyage. Over 1,500 lives lost; 705 survived.

September 1

*HMS "Waterwitch", British Admiralty survey vessel, rammed by the governor's launch while anchored in Singapore Harbour.

September 28

*SS Kichemaru, off the coast of Japan in a storm. Over 1,000 dead.

October

*SS "Nicaragua" - wrecked on Padre Island, Texas while traveling the Gulf of Mexico.

November

November 21

*"Endurance", Shackleton's ship of the British Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition caught in ice and finally sinks in the Weddell Sea.
