Brother Patrick Ellis,
F.S.C. , a brother of theInstitute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools , also known as theDe LaSalle Christian Brothers . He was the 13th president ofThe Catholic University of America (CUA) inWashington, D.C. from 1992-1998 and president ofLaSalle University inPhiladelphia, PA from 1977-1992. In his tenure as LaSalle president, Ellis doubled the size of the campus and oversaw the building of new residence halls and a new modernized library. While president he continued to teach English literature courses as he had during his 30 years as a professor at LaSalle.The Catholic University of America has named the Brother Patrick Ellis Chair in Education in his honor.
Education
Ellis began teaching in 1951. He received a Ph.D. in English from the
University of Pennsylvania in 1960 while also teaching at West Philadelphia Catholic High School for Boys.References
