Next single = "Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial) " (2005)"Welcome Home" is a song by the
progressive rock bandCoheed and Cambria . It is the third track on the album, "". The song was the second single on the album, and was made into a music video. The song tells of the hostility in The Writer and Miss Erica Court's relationship in the story of Coheed and Cambria. The song is featured as a playable track in the game "Rock Band" and as well is featured in the soundtrack ofMadden NFL 06 .ong
The song itself details The Writer's hostile feelings for Erica Court after he has learned that she cheated on him. In the graphic novel, The Writer sees a twisted version of himself binding Erica with a rope to throw her in a grave - which represents the end of his love. The graphic novel shows The Writer saying, "Welcome home," to Erica as she looks at her open grave. But being this is only a vision, The Writer still longs to be with her.
Instrumentation
The song features stringed instruments during the verses and outro. In addition to the bass, synthesised strings, and drums, there are two electric guitars with distortion (one of which is Claudio's
Gibson EDS-1275 ), a synth guitar added in after recording, and the acoustic guitar heard in the introduction and the chorus. The verses of the song sound similar only in the first few bars to Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir", featuring a rolling beat and a string and guitar driven chord progression. Some speculate this is why Claudio chooses to use one of his EDS-1275's (he owns two, one in white and one in cherry red).Music video
The music video opens with a red liquid resembling blood forming the band's symbol, the Keywork, during the opening acoustic guitar riff. As the other instruments kick in, the band is shown playing on a metallic silver stage, as pictures rise out of the ground around them. The pictures then begin to play scenes from the storyline. The video alternates between the storyline and the band's performance throughout the rest of the video. It should be noted that the video is nearly two minutes shorter than the album version of the song, due to the shortening of the intro and the exclusion of part of the solo.
Inclusion in Rock Band
In 2007, this song was included in the Harmonix
music video game "Rock Band", exposing Coheed and Cambria to a considerably wider audience. However, the words "Whore" and "Fucking" were edited to "Wolf" and "Mucking" respectively.
