Peter J. Boettke (born
3 January 1960 ) is an American economist of theAustrian School .Early life and education
Boettke was born in
Rahway, New Jersey to Fred and Elinor Boettke and remained there until he moved toPennsylvania to attendThiel College in Greenville and laterGrove City College . After completing aB.A. (1983) in economics at Grove City, Boettke attendedGeorge Mason University where he earned an M.A. (1987) and aPh.D. (1989) in economics.Professional history
After receiving his doctoral degree, Boettke taught at several schools, including
Oakland University ,Manhattan College , andNew York University . In 1998, he returned to George Mason University as a faculty member. In 2004, he was named a Hayek Fellow at theLondon School of Economics . He has also been a Faculty Fellow at the Charles University/Georgetown University [http://www.tfasinternational.org/aipes/about/ American Institute for Political and Economic Studies] in Prague and a Visiting Scholar at theHoover Institution on War, Revolution and Peace atStanford University . Boettke is Deputy Director of the James M. Buchanan Center for Political Economy atGeorge Mason University where he is a professor of economics. He is also senior research fellow at theMercatus Center . Until 2007, Boettke held the position of Director of Graduate Studies for the Ph.D. program in economics at George Mason.
