- Louisiana State Museum
The Louisiana State Museum (LSM), founded in New Orleans in 1906 and still headquartered there, is a complex of National Historic Landmarks housing thousands of artifacts and works of art reflecting Louisiana's legacy of historic events and cultural diversity.
Overview
The Museum operates five properties in the historic
French Quarter : the Cabildo, Presbytere, 1850 House, Old U.S. Mint and Madame John's Legacy. Other sites include Louisiana State Museum -Patterson, Louisiana , Louisiana State Museum -Baton Rouge , the Old Courthouse Museum inNatchitoches , and the E.D. White Historic Site inThibodaux .Numerous organizations exist throughout Louisiana to support the Museum including the Louisiana Museum Foundation, Friends of the Cabildo, Wedell-Williams and Cyprus Sawmill Foundation, Friends of the Natchitoches Old Courthouse Museum, and Friends of the E.D. White Historic Site.
The LSM is part of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, which
as of 2008 is overseen by Lt. GovernorMitch Landrieu .
