Peaberry Coffee

Peaberry Coffee

Peaberry Coffee is a coffee shop chain that was started in Denver, Colorado in 1990 by Bill Tointon. The store's concept is founded on serving a variety of coffee from local roasters categorized in a menu format called the "Peaberry Profile System". The system offers 4 selections of Coffee Roasting styles, "Light & Mild", "Rich & Creamy", "Extravagant & Exotic" and "Dark & Intense". As of 2006 there are over 18 stores operating in Colorado.

Contrary to Denver rumors, Peaberry Coffee did not sell any stores to Starbucks Corporation. Several leases were not renewed in 2006 to more intently focus on the quality of the coffee. Peaberry president Bill Tointon attributes the change to his desire to refocus the company efforts on selling coffee beans both at the remaining store locations and online through Peaberry's E-Beans program. As of July, 2007 Peaberry Coffee owns and operates 5 stores in the Denver metro area. An additional 8 store locations are independently owned and operated as Peaberry franchises.

The store is named after the Peaberry coffee bean. The Zimbabwe, under the "Light & Mild" and the Colombian and Tanzania, under the "Extravagant & Exotic" are Peaberry beans.
