Two local high schools send three students to the show. The show consists of three rounds: Collaboration, Lightning and Extreme Lightning. The team who receives the most points by the end of the show advances to the next round until the final winner is decided.
*Collaboration Round
In the Collaboration Round, the host, Brad Friedman, asks questions to each of the two teams. The players on each team can collaborate to arrive at their final answer. Each question answered correctly is 10 points. If the team says the wrong answer, the other team can steal the points and earn the 10 points. After a commercial break, Brad Friedman interviews the students about their lives, college plans, school activities, etc.
*Lightning Round
In this second round, the six students compete individually, pressing their own buzzers to answer the questions which go toward the team total score. Each question is worth 10 points. Just as in the Collaboration Round, if a student provides the host the wrong answer, the other team may collaborate and steal the points.
*Extreme Lightning Round
In the last round, the game play is the same, but the point value of each question is increased to 20 points. If there is a tie at the end of the show, the host will ask everyone one question and whichever team first answers the question correctly is the winner and moves on to the next round.
