Peter Taylor (journalist)

Peter Taylor (journalist)

Peter Taylor born Scarborough, North Yorkshire is a British journalist and documentary-maker who had covered for many years the political and armed conflict in Northern Ireland, the so-called Troubles. From his experience he has written and produced books and television documentaries on the Northern Irish conflict.

Biography

Taylor has written three related books on the Troubles called, "Provos: The IRA and Sinn Féin", "Loyalists", and "Brits: The War against the IRA", and a fourth book, titled, 'Beating the Terrorists: Interrogation in Omagh, Gough, and Castlereagh' (Penguin, 1980).

The three aforementioned books each deal with the Northern Irish conflict from the perspective of one of the three main elements involved: the Provisional IRA; the various Loyalist paramilitaries and their political wings; and the British government together with the British security forces' presence as it was organized and maintained in Northern Ireland to combat terrorism. These books give some insight and understanding of all the main groups involved and the events that occurred throughout this turbulent period in British-Irish history. Taylor's books feature interviews with people connected to some of the more significant incidents and important occurrences in Northern Ireland during this time.

In 2007, he chronicled and presented the BBC four-part series, Age of Terror.

He is the older brother of John Taylor, the former London Weekend Television and London News Network news reporter.
