next_route=150State Route 149 is a short route that connects the southside of downtown
Birmingham, Alabama with the south suburbs of Mountain Brook and Homewood. Prior to the completion of Interstate 65, SR-149 served as the truck route of U.S. Highway 31 and U.S. Highway 280.The northern termminus of SR-149 is at the interchange of University Boulevard and the Red Mountain (Elton B. Stephens) Expressway (US-31/US-280). There are no route indicators for SR-149 at this interchange. From this interchange, SR-149 follows University Boulevard through the campus of the
University of Alabama at Birmingham , heading in a generally southward direction. Between Exit 259 and Exit 255, SR-149 parallels Interstate 65 as both routes enter the city of Homewood. In Homewood, SR-149 is routed on Green Springs Highway until it intersects with Lakeshore Drive. At that point, the route turns east, passingSamford University , then junctioning again with US-31 and then at its southern terminus with US-280.References
