"Campbell Live" is a half-hour current affairs programme weeknights at 7 p.m., following 3 News on TV3. It is hosted by New Zealand TV personalities John Campbell and Carol Hirschfeld (who is also the producer). "Campbell Live" has interviewed various notable personalities, including Al Gore, Robert Fisk, Tony Blair, and an array of New Zealand politicians.

History

TV3 announced their decision to start a 7pm Current Affairs show in November 2004 after Paul Holmes, who presented a Current Affairs show called "Holmes" on TV1, left TVNZ to host a similar show on Prime. "Campbell Live" started production in February, 2005 after John Campbell and Carol Hirschfeld left their 3 News presenter positions to host and produce respectively the current affairs show. The show first aired on the 21st of March 2005 with the first story being about fake drivers licences being given to people of Asian descent. As the show progressed, new reporters joined the team, such as C4's music host personality Jaquie Brown who produced human interest stories for the programme.

Among the programmes "Campbell Live" competes with are TV ONE current affairs show "Close Up" (hosted by Mark Sainsbury) and TV2 drama "Shortland Street".

"Campbell Live" won two awards at the 2006 Qantas Television Awards [http://www.qantastvawards.co.nz/2006winners.cfm] including Best Current Affairs Series. The second award was for the Best News or Current Affairs Presenter for John Campbell.
