Australian rules football er in the Victorian Football League. He played for St Kilda.Although he played as a forward in
Tasmania , he played most of his early career with the Saints as a defender. He was named as a back pocket in the St Kilda Team of the Century. He played a great game onPeter Hudson in the 1971 Grand Final where he famously touched the ball as Hudson was kicking to break the VFL goalkicking record.Later he returned to the forward line, using his skills of judgement and strength to good effect.
He is the father of former St Kilda and Brisbane player Steven Lawrence.
