Missy Hart

Missy Hart

Missy Hart was a character in the movie Nine to Five. She was played by Broadway actress, Marian Mercer, which reunited her and her former Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman co-star, Dabney Coleman. (He played Fernwood's mayor, Merle Jeeter and she played his wife, Wanda)

Married to a cad!

In the movie, Missy was the wife of corrupt Vice President, Franklin Hart, Jr. She is a sweet and incredibly kind woman, the complete and total opposite of her husband, who was quite mean, vicious and more or less a cad; but some would say that she was kind of daffy, or gently dizzy.

She ostensibly comes from a rich family (which was why Hart married her in the first place). Mr. Hart continually hits on his secretary, Doralee Rhodes, but Missy still loves him and has no grudge against Doralee.

Office manager Violet Newstead told her new work-mate Judy Bernly that Missy had been too good a meal ticket all those years that Hart was married her, and that she was bananas because she adored him.

Missy wanted her husband to go on a cruise with her, but he refused to spend four weeks of his life drifting around on some Mediterranean cruise (or "Dago boat" as Frank calls it). He did, however, agree to send her on a two-month cruise to the South Seas. This way, with Missy out of the way, he could pursue his devious and often underhanded business practices with impunity, and could chase Doralee around the desk and not feel so bad.

Her sweet nature also makes her quite gullible, meaning she could be told the most vicious lie by Hart and she would believe it.
