Krasny Bor Forest, Karelia

Krasny Bor is a forest in the Petrozavodsk area, Karelia.

In 1997 a place of NKVD executions was uncovered in the forest. The burial site area was about 350 by 150 metres. According to declassified archive data, from August 9 to September 15, 1937 and from September 26 to October 2, 1938 at that place 1,196 people were executed: 580 Finns, 432 Karelians, 136 Russians and 48 persons of other nationalities.

On October 31, 1998 the memorial cemetery "Krasny Bor" was opened.
