Marlborough School for Girls

Marlborough School for Girls is an elite private school (grades 7-12) in the Hancock Park section of Los Angeles, California, United States.

Started in 1889 by Mary Caswell, the school has been educating young women in a single sex environment ever since. It is the oldest independent girls' school in Southern California. The current principal is Barbara Wagner.

Marlborough provides a rigorous college preparatory education, offering a wide variety of AP and honor classes. There are roughly ninety girls in each grade, while the average class size is thirteen. Students come to Marlborough from over 100 different schools. 37% of the students are not non-Hispanic white. The school has over 300 computers, 27 SmartBoards, twenty-two thousand library books (one of the largest among independent schools in Southern California), an operating budget of $18 million, and an endowment of $33.7 million (the largest endowment per student among independent schools in Southern California). School spirit is heightened during annual traditions such as Pumpkin Day (in which students and teachers alike take part in a Halloween costume competition), Winter Fest (held on the last day of school before winter break), the talent show (held on the last day of school before spring break), and a plethora of other events.
