Essex ,England . The station, and all trains calling there, are operated byNational Express East Anglia .It is a small station on the line from Southend Victoria to London Liverpool Street.
As of January 2008 it has a ticket office and no barriers. When the ticket office is closed, access to the platform is available through a gate to the left of the building.Immediately outside the station is the taxi rank and a car park. There are two bus stops, one on the main road, and one along a small slip road, where buses can wait. There is also a newsagents to the right of the station entrance. Rayleigh town centre is a short, steep walk uphill.
On the
25 May 2007 , the station was the scene of an armed robbery as a cash machine was being unloaded. A local commuter described as "heroic" was shot in the chest while attempting to help the staff, but fully recovered in hospital.
