railway station serving the village of Fishbourne, Apuldram and much of the Manhood Peninsula. TheLondon, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR) opened the station at Fishbourne on1 April 1906 [The Fishbourne Book Hand,M(Ed) Fishbourne Fishbourne Book Group ISBN 0862605652] . Always a small halt it nevertheless was the point where a single track veered off for the branch line between Chichester and Midhurst. It is located on theWest Coastway Line that runs between Brighton and Southampton. The station is roughly half a mile walk fromFishbourne Roman Palace .Services
Typical off-peak service consists of one train per hour to Littlehampton and one train per hour to Portsmouth and Southsea. Peak services include well-used direct trains to London Victoria and London Bridge.
The passenger usage statistics materially understate the passenger traffic. For example, many schoolchildren hold season tickets from Chichester but actually board a train to Portsmouth in the morning at Fishbourne. They often have to return home via Chichester Station due to the confusing and sporadic off-peak train stopping patterns.
