Richard Sennett (born
Chicago ,1 January 1943 ) is the CentennialProfessor ofSociology at theLondon School of Economics , the BemisAdjunct Professor of Sociology atMIT and Professor of theHumanities atNew York University . Sennett is probably best known for his studies of social ties in cities, and the effects of urban living on individuals in the modern world. Sennett is married to sociologist andeconomist Saskia Sassen .Sennett has been a Fellow of The
Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences , and was elected as a Fellow of theAmerican Academy of Arts and Sciences , and Fellow of theRoyal Society of Literature . Sennett is the founding director of theNew York Institute for the Humanities .In 2006 he was the winner of the
