Massac Creek is a small stream found in
McCracken County, Kentucky . It is considered to be a great creek to kayak, fish, wade, four-wheeling and swimming. The creek runs for about 15 miles but has not been officially measured.Massac Creek gets its name from
Massac County, Illinois across from its mouth, were it empties in theOhio River and the town of Massac received its name from the creek which is were its source can be found. It has one major branch known as Little Massac Creek.Of the 300 species of fish known to live in the
Mississippi River basin. Can be found inMassac Creek Gar ,Blue Gill and dozens ofminnows are easily found in the pools and eddies that can collect on the Banks Birds such as the great heron common in the southernUnited States , deer, beavers and raccoons are just a few of the mammal species reptiles and amphibians are to numerous to count. Little Massac Creek has greater biodiversity due to less development and run off on it than the main creek.Massac Creek was named and charted in the 1830s or 1840s when Paducah was laid out. It was used to power a saw mill for years known as Maxon Saw Mill using the current to turn the wheel.
