Gijs Andriessen is a Dutch
video grapher and composer living inRio de Janeiro , Brazil.Son of composer
Jurriaan Andriessen . Grandson of composerHendrik Andriessen . He was born in 1957 inDen Haag ,the Netherlands . He finished theNetherlands Film and Television Academy in 1981. Participated with the 30 minutes musicvideo "Views" at the first visual music festival in Los Angeles, 1981. In 1983 he moved toRio de Janeiro ,Brazil , where he worked as a jazzpianist and composer of songs and soundtracks for films and television. In 1989 he worked as video director for the production companies "Spectrum" and "TV PLUS" directing documentaries and comercials. In 1992 he started a group with singerMarianna Leporace , performing his own songs. In 1995 he moved to Holland again, where he stayed until the end of 1997. Back in Rio, he renewed hisjazz /pop group, now called "JazzCatNine". Two years later he founded JazzCatNine video and music productions, working as director, producer,camera man and editor, simultaneously working as a composer of songs and soundtracks. Lately he has been working with contemporary dance groups, performances and the NGO People's Palace projects, that works withchild ren from the slums of Rio de Janeiro.The first part of his multimedia concert called "Noturna" for pianosolo and videoprojection was shown in 2003 at the Sergio Porto theatre in Rio de Janeiro.
His last work is the film "Cannibal Café" based on the blog by Cibele Machado, a writer from São Paulo. It had its premiere in July 2006 as a videoinstallation at the event "VERBO" at the Galeria Vermelho in São Paulo.
