- SODDI Defense
The SODDI Defense is one of the most common defenses used by defendants in criminal trials. SODDI is an acronym standing for "Some Other Dude Did It," or "Some Other Dude Done It" and thus, derives its name based on how criminal defendants, rather than how attorneys or judges, tend to speak. The SODDI defense is often used when there is no question that a crime occurred, such as in murder or assault cases, where the defendant is not asserting
self-defense . The SODDI defense is often accompanied by amistaken identity defense and/or analibi defense. One of the most famous examples of the SODDI defense being used successfully was the
O.J. Simpson murder case , in which Simpson's attorneys argued thatNicole Brown Simpson andRon Goldman were murdered by hitmen sent by drug dealers.
