Wild Canid Survival and Research Center

Wild Canid Survival and Research Center

The Wild Canid Survival and Research Center is a private nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving wolves and other wild canids through preservation, breeding, and research. The research area is commonly known as the "Wolf Sanctuary". It was founded by Doctor Marlin Perkins and a group of like-minded individuals in 1971 who were interested in the plight of the wild wolf.

The center has been located on 63 acres (250,000 m²) inside the Tyson Research Area, which is located 20 miles (30 km) outside St. Louis, Missouri since its formation. However, in response to other needs at the Tyson Center, the WCSRC in recent years has acquired 583 acres (2,359,317.3 m²) southwest of St. Louis near Interstate 44 in Jefferson County. Currently there are plans to relocate the animals there and build a visitor center as well as other facilities on the new property.
