Centric Character(s): Charlie
Charlie awakens to see Locke carrying Claire to Jack. Claire wakes up and panics, asking, "Who are you people?" The last thing that Claire claims to remember is the flight. Jack fills her in about the events since the flight.
"In a flashback, we see Charlie and his friend Tommy using heroin, but running low on money. In a bar, Tommy points towards a girl named Lucy and tells Charlie that her father is rich. Charlie walks over and makes conversation with Lucy."
Charlie meets Jin in the jungle, and they walk together until Jin is knocked out by a rock. Ethan confronts Charlie, threatening to kill the other castaways one by one until Charlie delivers Claire back to Ethan. Charlie tells Jack and Locke about Ethan's threat. Locke suggests that the islanders take security measures. Claire is uncomfortable about what seems to be going on around her, but Charlie assures her there isn't anything going on.
"In a flashback, we see Charlie in Lucy's home. Lucy shows him a cigarette case once owned by
Winston Churchill (On a trivia note however, when Charlie asks what Lucy's father is up to, Lucy tells him that she thinks he's up in Slough buying a paper company, this is a slight nod to the original BBC series The Office). Over dinner, Charlie tells Lucy's father that DriveSHAFT is "dead". Charlie informs Tommy that he has taken a job working for Lucy's father selling copy machines. Tommy reminds Charlie of their addiction."Sayid and Locke rush to hear who has triggered the alarm. They discover that it was only Boone who tripped it, but then they hear screaming and return to the beach, only to find that Scott had been murdered by Ethan who has came out from the ocean. With the guns from the briefcase and Claire as (willing) bait, Jack, Kate, Locke, Sayid and Sawyer set a trap.
"In the next two flashbacks, Charlie first steals the cigarette case that belonged to Winston Churchill, and then goes to his first day of work. His plan to become respectable backfires as he suffers
withdrawal symptoms. He passes out after throwing up under the lid of the photocopier that he is demonstrating, and the prospective clients find the valuable antique in his jacket. When he goes to see Lucy to explain, she refuses to hear his explanation and tells Charlie that he will never take care of anyone."The trap works, and Ethan is captured. Although the plan is to keep Ethan alive, a vengeful Charlie fires four rounds into his chest and kills him. Charlie tells Jack that Ethan "deserved to die". The episode ends with Claire telling Charlie that she "wants to trust him".
