Taxpayer groups

These taxpayer groups can be formal nonprofit organizations or informal groups. They are generally seen as “watch dog” groups. As such they try to keep taxes and borrowing down as well as spending. Many US cities have these taxpayer groups. They try to make their presence felt by attending budgeting hearing, working with elected official and distributing their views on taxing and spending. They can even initiate legislation at the state level to keep taxes and spending in check.
